Trying to save money on food during these tough, high-priced times? I will be giving you some thrifty and economical recipes during the coming months that will be sure to delight your and your family’s taste buds, as well as save you money!
Budget Fettuccini Alfredo
Serves: 4
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes or less
Ingredients:
1 package pasta (taglietellli or your favorite pasta) + 1 Tbsp butter or margarine
1 chicken bouillon cube
4 Tbsp all-purpose flour
1 ½ cups milk (skimmed or semi-skimmed)
½ tsp garlic powder
¼ tsp ground black pepper
2 Tbsp butter or margarine
¾ cup sliced mushrooms, bell peppers, cooked chicken or sausage (optional)
Method:
Cook pasta according to package instructions.
Drain, mix in butter and pour into large serving bowl.
In a medium saucepan over low heat melt the butter.
Crumble in the chicken bouillon cube, garlic powder, black pepper and flour.
Mix well into a thick paste.
Increase heat to medium, add milk and stir constantly until sauce thickens.
Reduce heat and add mushrooms, vegetables or meat (optional).
Serve over the hot noodles and enjoy!
