We should be so lucky-Kylie’s battle
July 22, 2008
Ever since Kylie Minogue was diagnosed with breast cancer back in May 2005, all we’ve heard is how amazingly she’s coped and what a great ambassador she is for breast cancer. But what I really want to know is why she is being put on a pedestal?
Of course she’s dealt with it well. She’s had the best care in the world. Don’t get me wrong, I like Kylie, and it was such an awful thing to happen, no one should ever have to go through that. But getting the best treatment and having the money to make life more comfortable can make all of the difference in the world.
There are thousands of women everyday going through the same ordeal and unlike the pop star, they have to wait months for treatment. And not everyone has the money to pay for the best doctors or jet off to exotic destinations to relax and recover.
I believe that stress can really slow down or prevent a persons recovery. And if you’re worrying about money because you can’t work or other such reasons, it can put a big strain on things.
She also received an OBE earlier this year for her services to music. Well personally I think it was a bit undeserved. We all know the reason she was put on the New Year’s honours list was because of her fight with breast cancer. And again, this leads me back to why is she getting so much praise for something that happens to thousands of people?
Fans of Kylie will probably totally disagree and say she’s such an inspiration. But it’s a lot easier to be an inspiration when you’re in the position she’s in.
I’ve often heard people say “money can’t buy you happiness”.
But I’d rather be miserable with money, than be miserable without it.
If a rich man and a poor man are both told they are going to die in 3 months, at least the rich man can end his days being comfortable and getting whatever he needs.
The poor man on the other hand has no means of making things better for himself. And will therefore probably suffer more.
It is definitely a rich mans world. Being on the poor end of the scale can be really tough and these are the people we should be giving praise too.
