Microporous paint, what is it?

April 11, 2008

Microporous paint can be often applied to specialist paints, a water based paint which allows the surface underneath to breathe. Ideal for all outdoor exterior wood surfaces, e.g. windows, doors, fascia boards, soffits and cladding, etc. Also suitable for wood used inside. Plant based paints are microporous which means they are waterproof but shouldn’t flake or blister i.e. eco friendly and non-toxic.

What is Microporous?

In the context of purification, we define microporous as membranes having an average pore size which is between 0.1 and 1.0 microns in diameter

A mesoporous material is a material containing pores with diameters between 2 and 50 nm.

Porous materials are classified into several kinds by their size. According to IUPAC notation (see J. Rouquerol et al., Pure & Appl. Chem, 66 (1994) 1739-1758), microporous materials have pore diameters of less than 2 nm and macroporous materials have pore diameters of greater than 50 nm; the mesoporous category thus lies in the middle.

is this outdoor paint micro porous only for outdoor or can it be used for indoor?

Got something to say?
