Sex and Society

September 16, 2008

It’s often been thought that this is a man’s world, and in most cases this statement is true. Even in today’s society, women are still second class citizens. Many times I have heard of women doing exactly the same job as men, yet men are being paid considerably more, and for what?
Having a penis and a receding hairline?
It is instances like this that make women feel that they must compete, and whatever a man does a woman can do even better.

I am all for female rights and there is nothing wrong with women wanting to be treated as equal to men.
But I was watching a program a few days ago called “Sex in the Noughties” and I was totally shocked. It was a documentary about women’s sex blogs on the Internet and their sexual experiences. I was drifting in and out of the program, but this particular woman grabbed my attention.

She talked openly about her blogs and why she thought it was important to tell the world about her sexual conquests. And yes she was single, what a surprise!

She was trying to put over that it’s ok for women to sleep around because it’s ok for men to sleep around. But here’s where I have a problem.
It’s not acceptable for men to do it either. They are basically saying this to justify sleeping around like common prostitutes.
Who are they trying to kid?
Dropping your knickers for every Tom, Dick and Harry (no pun intended) does not make you an independent woman. All it makes you is a whore.

Now I would like to think of myself as open minded, and I am aware that in today’s society, people do have a number of sexual partners in their lifetime. But some of these women are pushing in to triple figures. So what sort of women are they?
And what exactly are they trying to prove?
Of course women should enjoy sex, but are these women really enjoying it as much as they make out?
I have my own theory about this. If you find a partner that is good in the sack, why would you want to keep on experimenting with others that might just turn out to be really bad in bed. I know if I had a bloke that knew exactly how to push my buttons, no way would I trade him in.
So maybe these women are just having bad sex.

But whatever the reason for it its quite sad. Maybe we would respect these women more if they were honest and simply said they were just looking for love, instead of covering the true facts up with seedy little stories of blow jobs and one night stands.
Let’s face it aren’t we all looking for love?
And in my experience sex can be so much better with that someone special.

I believe having morals is what gives us empowerment. And I think it’s important for men as well as women to have principles. Because without them, how can we obtain respect when we don’t respect ourselves.
