Should We All Just Settle? A perfect soul mate
June 22, 2008
We learn, just from living everyday life, that we can’t always get what we want. We can’t always be the best, we can’t always win and we can’t find exactly what we’re looking for. So why do we insist on finding love, or a “soul mate“? Chances are that we’ll never find it! We’ll never find the “perfect” mate or the “perfect” spouse. We must know this, so why are we looking for it? At best we’ll find someone that tolerates us and that we tolerate. And is that such a bad thing? A mutual understanding that no one is perfect, but people are people. Sometimes, not the most attractive, but always there for you. Sometimes not the smartest, but knows how to make you laugh. Never on time, but is always the life of the party. Is settling so bad?
The media shows us that we have to make chances, who to date, who to like and who to look for, but it never shows us how to find what we‘re looking for. My opinion why they do that is because they know that it’s nearly impossible to find the “one”, but hey why not kill yourself looking, right? Eventually you’ll get tired of believing and give up, and as the movies and books show, that’s when that magical “one” will show up and save you from yourself. And you think that will ever really happen? Now whose writing fiction?
Call me negative or call me what I really am, a realist. I really know that love is not easy to find. I really know that about 99.9% of all people are looking for love. I also really know that 100% should probably just settle with the one that is there with them at the end of the day. “The One” and “soul mate” are names for a person that only exist in your dreams and movies. That doesn’t mean that you should just completely ignore the idea of love, it means that you should just open your eyes a bit more before going out there and offering yourself up to something that you barely know about.
Love, romance, and passion are very tricky things. They involve a lot of thought before you actually know what you want. But why should you save yourself for an idea that you haven’t even fully developed for yourself? You have to make your own decisions about love, romance and passion. Stop being told what it should be and discover it for yourself!
