GRIFFIN DEFEATS JACKSON IN DAVID VS GOLIATH LIKE VICTORY FOR THE ULTIMATE FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIP
July 15, 2008
The sweet science of boxing had ruled the direct contact fighting sport’s medium since its creation. However now a new sport has arisen to take viewers into the high charge velocity of fighting culture. A new passion has been awakened, and that passion is mixed martial arts. Where punches, elbows, kicks, knees and even submissions are all legal and preformed sensationally.
The light heavyweight title match up, between champion Quentin ‘Rampage’ Jackson and Forest Griffin had pay per viewers and fight fans buzzing with excitement since its announcement and it didn’t disappoint.
A true underdog bout for Griffin against one of the most powerful strikers and wrestlers in the world if not the most vicious, consisted of five-five minutes rounds (as it was a title match) spun and dived into both ferocious men’s favour with Rampage knocking Griffin down with an acute but deadly uppercut.
Griffin quickly recovered and dominated vast periods of the rounds by displaying
Outstanding Brazilian Ju Jitsu and Muay Thai skills by destroying the bigger fighter with outstandingly well timed, and hit leg kicks which got Rampage crumbling to the floor and which inevitably was his downfall.
Both continued to trade until the bell rang for the end of the fight to rapturous applause for both warriors, With Forest Griffin being names Light Heavyweight champion of the world by unanimous decision.
The victory was a mammoth task for Griffin but also for the sport who has many critics but if The UFC continues to grow and continue to offer this kind of bone breaking bundles of fighting action, the sweet science now has a sour to contend with.
