KEANE ENTERS THE VAST ARMY OF THE KOP!
July 30, 2008
Republic of Ireland veteran and captain, has secured a “dream” move to the Merseyside team. Keane has now set his sights on forming a productive and devastating partnership with last years it boy Fernando Torres. Keane has signed a massive four year deal worth an outstanding £ 20 million pound.Keane told this to the clubs official website,
“It is a dream come true,” Keane told Liverpool’s official website. “I have been a massive fan all my life and to be here is overwhelming.
“Liverpool came in for me and it was something I always dreamed about as a kid.
“I am at the stage now where I want to kick on a bit and win a lot of trophies. I believe that Liverpool can do that with the squad of players we have.
“Sometimes in life you don’t get many opportunities to go somewhere you have dreamed of going.
“When an opportunity like this comes along, you have to grab it with both hands.”
Keane has also revealed he has discussed his role at Liverpool with manager Rafa Benitez and the Republic of Ireland international is expecting to play as a second striker to Spanish star Torres.
“I have spoken to him (Benitez) about the situation,” added Keane. “He knows how I play and hopefully I can do a job for him.
“It is up to me to prove that I can stay in the team every week. You don’t just come into a club and expect to walk straight into the team; you have to earn your place and I am looking forward to doing that.
“I see myself as a second striker. I can play off the shoulder, link things up and play in the hole.
“You are always judged on scoring goals as a striker and I have always scored a lot of goals. Hopefully I can continue that here at Liverpool.”
And Keane - who is expected to make his debut against Villarreal on Wednesday, has hailed Torres as the best striker in the world and is hopeful he can strike up a dangerous relationship with the former Atletico Madrid ace.
“He (Torres) has been a revelation since he came to the Premier League,” added Keane.
“Torres is probably the best striker in the world right now. Hopefully we can play a lot of games together and do well.”
This signing has excited and unsettled the Liverpool faithful due to Keane’s increasing age but his talent remains explosive and his eye for goal still burns and echoes with hunger.
Keane has been a prolific striker since his premiership conception and I for one hope this Irishman doesn’t need that much luck to see him into the records book as prolific underdog striking legend on and off the pitch…
