Setting up page print bleed in InDesign

May 29, 2008

Bleed settings for your page document – The following steps show you how to setup page print bleed in InDesign for your print file. The guide will also show you how to export in .pdf for print.

This is if design file is already been created and ready for bleed.

Open your document file
Click document setup (you might have to click on More Options once the dialog box has appeared)
At the bottom of the dialog box has your bleed and slug settings.
Set all of your settings to .125mm. (it is up to you what your settings are for your printer – majority printers ask for around 1.5mm to 3mm bleed)
When you work, take all of your work out to that red square that will appear – don’t put writing on it.

When you export it out in .pdf settings, make sure you have the box for bleed document settings checked, and make sure that the crop and bleed marks are checked (this is under the documents and settings file).

If starting a new document, all you do is Click new document, all the settings including bleed and slug will be shown in the dialog box (if not click more options in the dialog box and the bleed and slug will show).
