Why do emails dissapear on my Samsung Galaxy S2?

Can anyone help regarding this issue?  I use Samsung Galaxy S2 android phone and my email setup is working fine except every time I refresh, all my previous e-mails disappear from my phone inbox, what do I have to do to keep my old emails until I am ready to answer or to delete?

One way I have found is to move them to a new folder, but is there a way just to keep them aslong as you want in the inbox?

    had same prob with my new Gal S2. I have figured it out. You will need to delete the account completely and set it up again but this time *dont* tick the box ‘premium’ (POP/IMAP) in the set up after you have entered your username and password. This happened to me too and I thought i was going mad- email was showing, then vanishing into the ether. I dont know what it meant by ‘premium account’ but i thought it meant ‘paid for’ email as opposed to ‘free’ email, so like you I ticked it. Anyways, whatever it means, it causes that bug. All your email will come back if you set it up again *without* the yellow p showing in front of the account name. (So dont tick premium account) Dont worry you havent lost the email forever as I thought originally. Let me know how you get on. I rang T mobile about this but the chap from Asia didnt have a clue!     many thanks to luvmyfone( june 12th) all my e.mails kept disappearing so did what you said and all of them came back . thank you for your help .

    I tried this after experiencing the same problem. It didn’t work for me. I am going to try K9 and see if that works – fed up trying suggested fixes. If K9 doesn’t work then I am back to the shop to ask waht is going on. If I get a fix i will let you know…

    Hi, I had exactly the same problem with emails dissappearing into the ether. I tried the solution suggested – deleted my account and set it up again and DIDN’T tick the box for ‘premium account’ No joy. So I tried again and this time when I set the account up again I ticked the box. Bingo!!! I now have 115 emails on my phone all of which had mysteriously dissappeared somehow.
    I really don’t understand it, but it seems to have worked.

    you have to go to your email settings on your pc as the galaxy s2 doesnt seem to save the emails on the phone itself, you need to tick a box in there that says keep emails on server or something like that, let me know if you have trouble and ill try and do a step by step.

    Hi Again,

    Don’t bother removing email accounts from your phone and then setting them back up with or without premium accounts. This looks like the real solution as Marty eludes to above. I have added steps below.

    I checked the settings on one of my machines and it had the setting to keep emails on the server. This I believe is the default setting on windows live mail. However, you got me thinking and I checked my other system and this had did not have the option checked – leave a copy of messages of messages on server.

    So

    Step 1.
    Check all your PC’s with email accounts.
    Step 2.
    Click the account settings tab. Then click properties.
    Step 3.
    Look under the advanced tab.
    Step 4.
    Then under the delivery section make sure the leave copy of message on server is checked.
    Step 5.
    Check all the PC’s have this setting checked. If they do not then one PC could be asking for the messages to be deleted. When your mobile refreshes it copies what is on the server so if the messages have been removed it will reflect this on your mobile also.

    Hope this helps! It certainly worked for me. Now my SGS2 has email and no disappearing!!

    hi all I have an issue first thanks to all I did sort out my mail this is for Sid ( delete old account , open mail then touch the account name top left this will bring email ( all in boxes and active account) press menu left button then select option delete account )

    I set up my emai as( IMAP For the SII ) i have a virgin account with outlook, on PC leave copy on server checked started to down load mail to my SII only find that it was in the process of sync the server with phone (3000 + mails) to be sent to phone. ( i set up a samsung sync account that HELPS WITH ALL ACCOUNT SYNCHRONIZATION)

    That’s fairly straight forward.
    1. Tap on the email icon
    2. Tap on the account you want to delete at the top of the screen. This should then show a screen headed with all inboxes.
    3. Tap bottom left options button. You will then see a delete account option on the bottom right.
    4. Delete away!

    Geez.. this sucks!!

    Is there anyway to set up the S2 to keep the e-mails (POP account), even if they have been removed off the server??

    I have had an LG, HTC and the dreaded iphone 4 and all of them did that… why does samsung make it soo hard sometimes?

    Let me know if anyone has figured it out or if there is an app that lets you do it that way??

    In outlook keep the box ticked where it says leave a copy of messages on server …its under account settings..more settings and advanced tab.

    Like above my emails disappear as soon as they arrive…I have Windows Live Mail…box is ticked where it says leave a copy of messages on server…still doesn’t work??

    Doesn’t make sense. Surely the phone can save emails. I don’t want to keep thousands of emails on the server.

    I have been stuck with this problem for 3 months and i still can’t find and answer.
    Didn’t have any problems like this on the iphone.

    I have pop3 accounts set up for my business domains and after which downloads the email to the phone, but the when i download the email to my laptop on an evening the phone does not retain a copy of the the email so i can’t reference it layer.

    On my ntlworld email comes into the phone and disappears before i can even read it.

    I don’t know if it’s an issue with the phone or Android.

    Matt, your right, you shouldn’t have to leave the copies on the server for the phone to retain the email, you didn’t have to do it on the iPhone.

    I had all my email set to retain a copy on the server while using the phone, once I then downloaded the email to my laptop it took the email off the server but the phone should still keep a copy.

    Perversely I have over come my problem by downloading Virgin media site (my email address remains with Virgin even tho’ I’m with Tesco) then click onto my email account directly via Virgin media….it’s a tortuous route and should be a lot easier…shame ‘cos I like the phone but now wish I’d bought an i phone

    The emails move to the recent folder if you go into emails and create new message and click on contacts icon the 2 nd icon across the top is recent and if you click that the emails are in there

    i had similar problems with emails disappearing. Simply use while email setup IMAP instead of POP with all usual settings for incoming mail and outgoing mail server settings and BIngo u should be done…atleast mine was ..cheers

    I have the same problem and was just going to add a new e-mail folder to put saved e-mails into, but I cannot create a new Subfolder. Does anyone know how to do this on the Galaxy S2?

    I did the same as steve – changed from POP to IMAP settings and all sorted now.
    Also sends a copy to my POP account on my PC.

    The IMAP solution did not work. I suspect the people that it worked for still are saving a copy of the email on thier server and don’t know it.

    I’m guessing you are correct.

    The POP3 handling on the phone is terrible, I still can’t get it to work through the default client.

    THE ANSWER FOR ME..

    HAVE YOU BEEN USING YOUR LAPTOP COMPUTER TO DOWNLOAD TOO.

    I found that my emails downloaded to the phone with no problems. I could read them and close the email page, open it up and they were still there, but every so often they just wiped off the phone to nowhere.

    I figured its because i have my computer on and that was downloading them too.

    I ran some test emails. If i have the computer turned off, the phone keeps the messgaes.

    As soon as i download the emails on the computer the phone loses them. Almost as if the computer is saying, these are my emails, hands off. (sort of thing)

    This i actually find quite useful as it means i can check and sort all my emails on the phone, then when i get home download them all on the computer and save the ones i want and get rid of the ones i dont. It also clears the phone for me without the need to delete.

    The computer will download emails you have read on your phone too.

    I appreciate your description which is familiar to my experiences, though it lead to a frustration I can’t sort out yet. I have experienced at least twice now (that I’m aware of) that emails have disappeared. When I have read emails on my phone while the PC has been at sleep, the emails have not been downloaded on the PC when I have opened it. And the emails are not stored on my phone so these two emails have been lost. I guess I need a setting on my phone telling it to leave the emails on the server (just as can do in Outlook if I choose to). Does anyone know how to avoid emails read on the phone from disappearing when I want them to be read on the PC afterwards?

    I have tried a number of the steps outlined above with no luck!
    I can retain e mails in the in box when I add one of my accounts(blueyonder) to the phone. But when I add a new virginmedia account, the e mail in the in box deletes immediately when the mail refreshes.
    Both accounts are set up in the same way – leave mail on server boxes ticked??
    So… frustrating as I want the new account on the phone.

    Any further suggestions or should I go back to T Mobile?

    My Galaxy S2 was not retaining its ntlword e-mails. I deleted the ntlworld account and reinstalled it using the IMAP option. I did not make it a Premium account.
    It worked and all the 20 or so test e-mails I had sent from my PC to my ntlworld account suddenly popped up, and they were still there 20 minutes later, and I could still send and receive ntl e-mails using my PC.
    For the moment, I am once more a happy bunny.

    Thanks to Marty and others, changing my PC Outlook settings to retain mail on the server solved the problem. In Outlook you can also set the number of days to retain mail or remove mail from server when deleted from ‘deleted items’.

    PROBLEM SOLVED

    Samsung Galaxy SII (S2) email deletion / disappearing problem

    Using a Galaxy SII (S2) with virginmedia.com email account.

    Problem:
    Emails seem to disappear from a POP3 account set up in “Email” function on android instantly after opening them. They are not stored on the phone and cannot be found anywhere.

    Solution:

    - Tried deleting the account and then recreating it. Fiddled with the premium POP3/IMAP setting. DIDNT WORK

    - Tried making sure that the messages would be left on the server via outlook after they had been downloaded. DIDNT WORK

    - Enabled IMAP in settings on my virginmedia email account online. Then manually created the email settings on the galaxy S2 by inputting my email address and password then pressing Manual Setup and setting up the incoming email under the IMAP protocol as opposed to POP3 (see your email provider for the server and port details). This worked and downloaded all of the emails to the phone where they stayed. SOLVED

    Read all of the threads above and try all of the solutions as this one might not be necessary to solve yours. Feel free to email me for more information as to how I fixed this – mikesdeman@hotmail.com
