Edinburgh

March 28, 2008

I stepped out of past, walked through the present with future in front of me. I was visiting Edinburgh for the first time in my life and was completly mesmerised by the beauty of this historic scottish thorne. The Royal Mile in Edinburgh gives you a strange combination of past, present and future. On one end of The Royal Mile there is Edinburgh Castle, if you keep moving on the same road it leads towards Palace of Hollyroodhouse which just faces Scottish Parliment that is surely symbolises a great and bright future and in between these two great symbols it is ‘the present’ of a great nation of Scotts.

Panorama of the Old Town and Southside of Edinburgh from the Nelson monument. Panorama was originally coined by the Irish painter Robert Barker to describe his panoramic paintings of Edinburgh.

Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland and one of the most beautiful and colourful cities in the Great Britain. Every hundreds of thousands poeple visit Edinburgh in search of a deadly combination of history, nature and culture a combo which you can hardly find in any other part of the world. Edinburgh is famous for its festivals and Hagmanay celebrations. The beautiful natural cites like Portobello beach and Arthur`s Seat definitly adds into the attraction of this eye-cativating city but the best part of the Scottish capital is its clear and colourful skyline which gives the famous romantic backdrop to this city.

Edinburgh was also known as the `Anthens of the North` in the past because of its literary activities led by Edinburgh University. This fact is still valid for this romantic city which gifted the lovers of literature, one of the most famous character of recent times equally loved by both adults and kids `HARRY POTTER` as J.K.Rowling started this series only when she moved to Edinburgh.

Every year nearly same number of people visit Edinburgh as much people are resident of Edinburgh. This makes the city second most visited place in Uk after London. If you are planning to visit Edinburgh here i will leave some important info for you so that you can enjoy your stay in Edinburgh.

On reaching Edinburgh Airport you can reach City Centre using the Airport link bus service. Now City council of Edinburgh is bringing the old way of travelling `the trams` back to the city. For travelling through the city you can use Day saver ticket by Lothian bus service. First buses also operate in the city though. Day saver will save you a fortune if you really want to visit many palces in the city on a single day and you can also visit all places in the city on Lothian buses as they are many in number on all the routes.

Although city is divided by coucil in different parts for better management yet city is still compact and you can actually visit city by foot as well. new town , old town and city centre (at least to me) seems as same parts of one area. yet you can feel the structural and architechtural changes which tells you mark difference in these areas.

If you are visiting Edinburgh in Summer times like july and august, you will enjoy fringe festival which is actually world`s largets performance based festival majorly based on high street. Edinburgh Militory Tattoo is `The Fomous Tattoo` show for which mostly people fly towards Edinburgh each year. Edinburgh International Book festival and Edinburgh International Film Festival are other then these festivals.

If you travel towards Edinburgh by the end of year, like many people do you will be able to attend Hogmany street celebrations which is now some thing more than mere street celebrations. These are europes biggest new year celebrations comprises of four day events on pricess street and royal mile. Beltane Fire Festival is also celebrated on 30th of the April.

Here i can mention some modern parts of Edinburgh like Princess Street and shopping but you can egt such info in any article about Edinburgh. In this last portion of my article I would like to share my three most loved places in the city of Romance. if you are in Edinburgh and you do not have these experince then take my words you will miss these. While visiting Edinburgh do take some time out of your busy schedule and visit portobello beach on one afternoon and if you are really lucky to have a sunny after noon. its a simple beach with eternal peace on its sand. Have a cup of coffee on one of the bench of portobello and you will say to your self ` yes there is no comparison of this place to any other place in the world`. you can easily get coffee from Gregs just Opposite to the Bank of Scotland building in town centre.

Portobello Beach

If you really feel you are still young at heart and can easily bear height fobia and really fast wind then give your self a little challenge to climb Arthur`s seat so that you can reach on the top by sun set. Here you can experience on of the most beautiful sunset if u face towards portobello beach. you can reach in the middle of Arthur`s seat by your car but there is no comparison in climbing it by foot.

Last place that is a must seen in Edinburgh is Carlton Hill. Its in the heart of city centre just next to princess street. Well do spend some time on one sunset and you will feel yourself in peace specially in this modern world where it is hard to find peace in every day life.
