July 9, 2008
Salou is a holiday resort on the Costa Darauda of Catalunya in northeast Spain. It’s about 10kms from the town of Tarragona, 90kms down the coast from Barcelona and 150kms down from the more renowned Costa Brava. Tourists are attracted by its many coves and beaches and excellent scenery as well as by the great summer weather. A brilliant place to go out to party or just relax in the sun.The climate in Salou is usually Mediterranean meaning with warm summers with plenty of sunshine and mild winters. There are rarely, if ever, extremes in temperature. It has a good balance; summer temperatures are a little cooler and more comfortable than the resorts of southern Spain, while winter temperatures are much milder than those felt in northern Europe. The climate is good year round in Salou, regulated by the temperate surrounding sea.
Summer season is the main time for tourists, who come to enjoy the excellent weather and great beaches. Daily highs average 28C in summer while night time low’s drop to about 20C. Temperatures can get hotter on occasions although there is often a cooling sea breeze felt in Salou to relieve to hottest temperatures. These refreshing breezes also help make the humid summer evenings comfortable.
The sunny warm weather can arrive as early as May and last even up to October, though the peak summer months are July and August, when average temperature is 25C.
In Salou you can find a high variety of international restaurants, as well as the well-known typical mediterranean food restaurants, although the standard of cuisine is of the “non-Gourmet” type. There is a huge amount of bars, pubs and clubs.
