The Light House Family, Souter Lighthouse
July 23, 2008
On a windswept stretch of the north-east coast stands Souter Lighthouse, boldly painted in red and white hoops.
While working with a friend at The Famous Souter Light House in Whitburn Tyne and wear I had one of the strangest experiences I have ever had to endure in my life. We were doing some general cleaning and domestic work in the building, On this particular night we came in to carry out our duties and seperated into different rooms, blissfully unaware of the srange happenings we were about to come across. Upon cleaning one particular room I had the srangest feeling I was being watched, followed by what sounded like little footsteps running about the room as though children were playing. By this time I started to feel a bit uneasy about being in the room alone. Upon finding my friend in another room downstairs, she too had experienced something very frightening indeed. The door to the room my friend was cleaning in had slammed shut behind her thus giving her a terrible shock as there was no body else in the building at the time but the two of us. Needless to say we finished what jobs we had to do in there and made a swift exit Other sightings by staff include A new waitress spotted at the far end of the kitchen corridor a man in an old-fashioned lighthouse keeper’s uniform, who promptly disappeared.
Around the time of the ‘sighting’, a number of members of staff commented on the strong odour of burning tobacco in the same stretch of the kitchen corridor, and also in the area around the recreated Keeper’s Cottage. Souter Lighthouse is open most of the year round for visitors. Happy Ghost Hunting!
